Why Do a Cleanse?

June 7, 2011 § 4 Comments

Caffeine, Alcohol, Sugar.

Can’t go wrong a cup of hot coffee in the morning. It gives me a jump-start to my day and I am almost more efficient while at work. I didn’t even drink coffee before moving to Seattle. Now I can have Starbucks, Stumptown or Cafe Vita without walking more than a block from my office. Not to mention the Nespresso maker we bought (best. decision.ever!)

Most weekday evenings I’ll have water in the evening with dinner, but give me a bottle of wine on the weekend and I will not pass it up. Wine is great. I love everything about it! I love learning about the different grapes, terroir, vintages, winemakers and I especially love drinking it! There is something so fun about tasting a new wine and assessing the different aromas, body and whether or not you can taste the french oak or the earthiness or dark fruits like blackberry. Sometimes it’s also fun to just make a martini before going out to our weekly Friday dinning adventure.

Sugar is the big one for me. I don’t go a night without something sweet to end my day. Most of the time it’s a few squares of dark chocolate, but I also have this thing for baking. I have so much fun baking banana bread, pumpkin chocolate chip bread, Mama Pea’s Dough Balls, and anything from Jessica’s How Sweet Blog…um cupcake fondue anyone?! There is not one dessert I’ve met that I didn’t like (except mochi…not a fan!)

I am completing this 21-day cleanse as a jump-start to cleaning up my diet. There is no reason to have caffeine, alcohol and sugar regularly. I want my taste buds to appreciate small amounts of sweet and I don’t want to depend of coffee for energy and alcohol to relax.

I’ll be touching on what I am learning throughout the next few weeks and share a few meals and recipes here and there.

Haha! Yes, Mickey and I were both super cranky and anxious-feeling today! The Registered Dietitian in charge of the cleanse said it was normal and we should be feeling better around day 4…half-way there!

Very impressed. Not sure if I could do what you’re doing! Good luck and I look forward to reading the updates!
